Engagement...December 8th, 2009

Hola!

It’s been a while since we have blogged, a lot has happened in the previous months. We really went into the new year with a bang!

December 8th, 2009. This day was one of my last few days at work at Saint Francis. I was counting down the days for Rebecca’s arrival back home and also our wedding! 11 more days until she flew into Indianapolis International! Since we had been engaged we hadn’t had the opportunity to be able to see each other in person, I was really looking forward to having her close and also to put the engagement ring on her finger! I was working 7 am to 7 pm as Unit Secretary for the ER. Throughout the day I was praying for her, for us, for our families, and for the wedding coming up and during my break I felt that God was telling me that Rebecca was home. I told a few of my friends at work that she was going to be coming home today, of course I was told not to put myself up for a big disappointment. I decided to go back to my apartment and put up the Christmas tree and also get the engagement ring just in case she had came home. There was no logistical reason to feel like Rebecca was home, she had a few more days at school left and she had already had her flight ticket for the 19th purchased. I went about my day as I normally would, answering the phones “We are ER and we care!” and entering tests that the doctors were ordering….maybe with a little big bigger smile on my face though. As it got later in the day I started thinking…maybe I should dress up and go to the airport and just wait and see what happens. I decided to just finish out the shift. Grace Assembly of God had a ladies banquet that evening which Rebecca’s mom was catering and at around 6 PM my soon to be mother-in-law called me and asked if I would swing by the church and do dishes. I of course said I would absolutely stop by and do dishes. I always love serving and I also love doing dishes. I stopped by the gas station and grabbed some grape juice and made my way on over to Grace not suspecting anything but a bunch of dirty dishes and a bunch of ladies in the sanctuary having a great time fellowshipping and praising the Lord! I got to the church and I walked in. Everyone was acting normally, I was excited to see Tara Kenyan who stopped me for a few moments (stalling it ended up being) to talk to me, Eusi, Joe, and a few other people. Then all of a sudden I see Rebecca’s dad calling me over, waving his hands trying to get me to come to the bathroom area outside of the sanctuary. I thought this was strange, but I really didn’t think much of it. I walk down the hallway which it seemed like people were stopping as I walked by them, like time was stopping almost, I had this incredible feeling come over me and as I turned the corner there Rebecca was! She had came home early! It was absolutely incredible. I was smiling, crying tears of joy, and was just so ecstatic to have her home! I surprised her by getting down on my knee and re-proposing to her. I slipped the ring out of my scrub pocket and asked her to marry me…again. She didn’t say yes really, she just looked shocked, maybe she did say yes, I just remember the first thing I remember hearing and that was “Who told you?!” No one knew she was home in the United States except one person and I was not informed by her! Rebecca’s parents and Taylor were there and Ernie was there taking pictures of it all.

January 9th, 2010. Looking back upon our engagement. Yes, our engagement was short. We were engaged for 65 days. 65 of the greatest days of my life. I’ve never talked on the phone, Skyped, and wrote as many e-mails ever as I did in that time. God put us together for a reason and for a lifetime. We’ve listened to Him and have followed His calling on our lives to be where we are right now. God speaks to us all the time and sometimes something might not make any sense….from the small things like knowing you’ll be running out of gas and that you should stop and fill up (I really miss that Camaro) to big things like leaving friends and family and going into a culture clueless….he’s always speaking to us. I’m so glad I heard God speaking to me that day and that I love doing dishes. Dececember 8th, 2009 is a day that I will always remember and we are blessed to have such incredible friends and family to share it with.

Over the next few days we’ll be catching our blogging up and letting you know what’s going on here and now! You’re all in our thoughts and prayers and we pray everyone is safe traveling.

GO COLTS!
-Lorin and Rebecca
